ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - Heads of the Croatian Trade Union of Shop Assistants and the Trade Association with the Croatian Employers' Association have said that the new Law on Trade will not lead to shop assistants being laid off, and if
it does, the number of dismissals will be insignificant.

Some shopping malls have said a great number of employees will be
laid off because of the new Law on Trade, which will go into force on
January 1, 2004 and which bans stores with more than 200 square
metres in area from working on Sundays.
The union and the Croatian Employers' Association described the
provisions of the law as exaggerations and threats.
