According to Slovene news agency STA, Prodi said after the talks he
hoped the two neighbouring countries would manage to settle all
issues and added that both could count on EC assistance in that.
The EC is willing to help so that there can be progress and a
positive solution, and following Croatia's recent parliamentary
election, the chances for that are better, Prodi said.
STA quoted Rop as saying he hoped Croatia would soon get a "strong
government" so that talks on the settlement of open issues could be
held, and that Slovenia was willing to help Croatia on its road to
the EU.
Rop went on to say that the EC accepted an initiative for a round-
table debate at which all Adriatic countries would address the
protection of the ecology and fish stock in the Adriatic.
Representatives of the EU would attend.
