"I don't believe that al-Qaida is active in Kosovo in any way," he
was quoted as saying.
He added someone was perhaps placing such misinformation in order
to destabilise Kosovo.
A spokesperson for the local U.N. mission (UNMIK) said today that
security had been stepped up at the mission's HQ because of events
in Baghdad and Afghanistan and not the situation in Kosovo.
The erection of the cement wall around the UNMIK building in
Pristina is part of higher security measures that have been taken in
all U.N. missions around the world following attacks on the body's
HQ in Baghdad, Izabella Karlowicz said.
In the wake of threats made to the United Nations in New York, UNMIK
and KFOR have set up joint checkpoints and increased the number of
patrols, especially in parts of Pristina where diplomatic missions
are located.
