Recalling that Muslims celebrate Ramadan Bayram at the end of the
month of fasting and prayer, Omerbasic commented on Sunday's
parliamentary election in Croatia and the situation Islamic
believers across the world were faced with because of terrorism.
He stressed that terrorism should be condemned with no
reservation.
With regard to the parliamentary ballot, he said that everybody,
including Muslims in Croatia, were expecting more stable
authorities that would address many problems. Omerbasic also
welcomed the election of the first representative of the Bosniak
minority to parliament.
In this context he spoke about the difference between being a member
of a national community and somebody's faith. He urged the present
to use the term Bosniak for denoting their ethnic origin and the
term Muslim for their religious orientation.
Omerbasic spoke about the painful events that afflicted Muslims
during the past month of fasting (Ramadan), referring to terrorist
attacks in Istanbul and victims in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Terrorist methods are incompatible with principles of Islam, he
stressed and pointed out that Islam had been exposed to numerous
attacks in recent years by those who identified this religion with
terrorism.
He went on to say that the method of occupying sovereign countries
recurred at the start of the 21st century, and the Islamic world is a
victim of it. Many accumulated problems in those countries are the
results of their undemocratic regimes but also of the interference
from abroad, pushing the Islamic and other countries to the brink of
disaster, Omerbasic added.
