ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - The Croatian government decided at a closed
session on Thursday that there was no need to adopt a special
regulation on the payment of damages for property damaged in
terrorist acts and public demonstrations, in line with the
parliament's conclusion of July 14. #L#
The government believes that the law on responsibility for damage
caused by terrorist acts and public demonstrations currently
regulates the matter in an optimal way for the state.
Any extension of rights which would be defined by new regulations,
as stated in the parliamentary conclusion, would place in an
unequal position citizens who so far, in line with the law on
reconstruction, have had repaired only their housing facilities
which were damaged as a result of direct war activities and
terrorist acts.
This law regulates exclusively reconstruction on housing
facilities under certain conditions, while the reconstruction of
business facilities and holiday houses is not regulated.
Under the criteria as defined by this law, only housing facilities
on the entire territory of the Republic of Croatia, which were
damaged as a result of terrorist attacks and public demonstrations,
will be reconstructed, reads a statement issued after the
government session.
