The rally was attended by some 30,000 people from Dalmatia and
neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina, who waved thousands of flags and
placards, carried photographs of HDZ leader Ivo Sanader and the
party founder, the late president Franjo Tudjman, and sang songs
announcing an end to the present coalition government of Prime
Minister Ivica Racan.
"We are hurt by how the government has treated war veterans over the
past four years, and we will bring them back their dignity," Sanader
said, adding that a new law on war veterans will be the first move of
his government.
Sanader also promised to restore three years' maternity leave and
student allowances.
