ZAGREB, Nov 21 (Hina) - The Electoral Ethic Commission on Friday
appealed to all participants in the election campaign to refrain
from making statements that might be interpreted as threats to or
pressure on the media. #L#
The appeal followed a protest by Croatian Radio reporters over the
statement by Ivo Sanader, leader of the main opposition party, the
Croatian Democratic Union, that "Croatian Radio can lie until
November 23".
Sanader rejected the allegation in an official statement, saying
that he had actually said that after November 23, the day of
parliamentary elections, Croatian Radio and Television should
finally become a public radio and television network and stop
acting as a mouthpiece for the Social Democratic Party.
The commission strongly condemned the removal and destruction of
advertising posters of political parties. It also condemned
anonymous threatening letters that had been sent to some parties.
The commission described as unacceptable and insulting statements
by the leader of the Croatian Party of Rights 1861, Dobroslav
Paraga, in which he discredited his political rivals.
