We shall be the strongest party, but we do not know how many votes we
will win, Sanader said adding that his party would restrain from
triumphalism.
He deplored threatening letters sent to some party leaders,
including HSS chief Zlatko Tomcic, and urged the police to find
perpetrators and punish them.
Asked by reporters to comment on the HDZ's rising popularity
according to opinion polls, Sanader said this was the result of the
restoration of his party's credibility.
He went on to say that the HDZ could win some 35 percent of votes.
He presented to reporters a code of ethics defining HDZ members'
conduct in the party and in public office. Members who fail to abide
by the code will be expelled from the party.
The code was adopted by the party leadership in order to restore
credibility of politics and institutions in Croatia, Sanader
said.
The code includes provisions of the law on the prevention of
conflict of interest, and documents of the European Popular Party
were consulted in drawing it up.
