Guests were welcomed by chief rabbi in Croatia Kotel Da-Don, who
wished the renovated school success.
The head of the Croatian Jewish community, Ognjen Kraus, spoke of
the history of Jewish education in Zagreb, which started in 1840. He
thanked Croatian authorities for recently returning the building
housing the school to the Jewish community.
The opening of the school marks the continuation of Jewish
education in Croatia, which was discontinued during the WWII Nazi
puppet regime when racial laws were passed, said Kraus.
Ban stressed the importance of the school's inauguration for the
Croatian Jewish community.
By supporting the construction of such schools Croatia is proving
that it is a multicultural society, said Education Minister
Vladimir Strugar.
A representative of the Vienna-based Israeli Embassy to Croatia,
Golit Ronen, also attended.
