ZAGREB, Nov 3 (Hina) - The Science and Technology Ministry and the government should not have let problems at Split Polytechnic assume such proportions that the abolishment of the Polytechnic should become the only possible way to
solve them, the national council of polytechnics and institutions of higher education decided at a session on Monday.

In a debate about the reasons and consequences of the government's
decree incorporating the Polytechnic into Split University, the
council urged "de-politicising" the case and opposed attempts to
use problems with polytechnic studies for electoral purposes.
"We hope that the current debates about the problems faced by
polytechnic studies will result in a positive approach to those
studies, so that in the transitional period until 2010 independent
schools of higher education and polytechnics, capable of
organising classes for all students attending polytechnic studies,
may be organised," the council said in a statement.
