SISAK, Nov 19 (Hina) - The Socialist Labour Party (SRP) president, Stipe Suvar, said ahead of Wednesday evening's election rally in Sisak that "last night's attack on two SRP members while they were sticking posters with his image and the party slogan 'Consistency' has a political meaning". #L# Earlier on Wednesday, Suvar issued a press release saying that "in Sisak two men were brutally attacked while sticking (SRP) posters" and that one of the attacked men is the head of the SRP local branch in the Sisak area, Miroslav Tadic, who is the second candidate of the SRP slate in constituency No. 6, and the other attacked man is also the party's activist. Miroslav Tadic told Hina that "while sticking SRP posters at the Caprag market in Sisak he and his colleague were attacked by a man whom he does not know," and he added that he could not assert whether this was a politically-motivated assault. Tadic also went to a police station in Sisak on Wednesday morning to ask the police whether the attacker was identified and on that occasion he was told that the man in question was a mentally ill person. According to Tadic, the man attacked him and his colleague with a beer bottle, a screw driver and a scalpel. After the attack Tadic, who said he had been stabbed seven times by the screw driver, also lost conscience for a short period while he was at hospital. Medical assistance was offered to him in the Sisak hospital , and the local police were notified of the event. After that police officers quickly arrived in hospital and questioned Tadic about the attack. After being examined by doctors, Tadic was released from the hospital. A spokesman for Sisak Moslavina Police Department, Miroslav Horvat, said that the police registered "a case of disturbance of public order and peace in 00:20 hrs Thursday and that three perpetrators were involved in it." According to Horvat, the three men first verbally clashed and after that the fight erupted. One of them suffered light physical injuries, according to a report of the Sisak hospital, Horvat said adding that charges would be pressed against all of them for misdemeanour. (hina) ms sb
