"As soon as we receive the first ruling from Strasbourg that
benefits pensioners, we will invite pensioners to a rally in Ban
Jelacic Square and demand from the authorities to give pensioners
the money it owes them," ASH president Zlatko Klaric said at a panel
discussion on the state debt to pensioners, which was organised in
Zagreb on Tuesday in cooperation with the Pensioners'
Association.
So far, 115 pensioners have sued the state with the Strasbourg court
through the ASH. The state owes around 50,000 kuna to each
pensioner, of whom there are around one million in Croatia, Klaric
said.
The ASH had hoped that it would run in the upcoming elections with
pensioners' associations and union, but this did not happen due to
the interests of individuals, Klaric said, voicing hope the party
would pass the election threshold and enter the parliament.
