VUKOVAR, Oct 25 (Hina) - The Independent Democratic Serb Party
(SDSS) will take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections with
a minority slate and, for the first time, with a diaspora list, it
was decided at a party convention in Vukovar on Saturday. #L#
Candidates on the minority roster will be SDSS president Vojislav
Stanimirovic, vice-president Milorad Pupovac, and the head of the
party's Programme Council, Ratko Gajica.
The list for the diaspora will consist of 14 candidates, but the
party has still not decided who will head the list.
Speaking to reporters after the convention, Pupovac said the
elections scheduled for 23 November would be "the first elections
in Croatia at which the Serb issue will not be abused, and the first
elections not to be followed by euphoria".
The SDSS advocates the consolidation of Croatia as a civil and law-
based state and strongly supports the continuation of reforms,
Pupovac said, adding the party wanted to be a "democratic component
of the Croatian parliament, not a necessary evil or an
embellishment".
Stanimirovic said the reason why the party would run in the
elections with minority and diaspora rosters was the fact that
minorities had not been granted double voting rights.
"If the situation were different, we would also nominate candidates
for a party list," he said.
He added that both the ruling parties and the opposition had shown
interest in the possibility of forming a post-election coalition
with the SDSS.
