Croatian Culture Minister Antun Vujic told a news conference his
counterparts had tried over the past few days, as well as in the
final statement, to determine how to position culture in relation
to other elements of globalisation so as to ensure the equal
development of both trade and culture.
Attending the conference were representatives of about 30
countries, the UNESCO, French-speaking countries, and the Council
of Europe. Among the participants were culture ministers from
Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, China, Finland, France, Iran,
India, Norway, Portugal, Greece, and Poland.
Also discussed were the media, whose pluralism and independence was
brought into question, and models of funding culture.
On Monday Opatija is due to host a conference of Council of Europe
nations' ministers of culture which will focus on
interculturalism.
