ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - Foreign direct investments in Croatia in the first half of 2003 totalled US$990.65 million, and since 1993 they have accumulated to 8.4 billion dollars, read the latest data released by the Croatian National
Bank (HNB).
ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - Foreign direct investments in Croatia in the
first half of 2003 totalled US$990.65 million, and since 1993 they
have accumulated to 8.4 billion dollars, read the latest data
released by the Croatian National Bank (HNB). #L#
Foreign direct investments in this year's first six months have
already exceeded last year's investments, which totalled US$980.51
million.
According to the HNB data, of the US$990 million of foreign direct
investments in this year's first half, more than two thirds, or
684.3 million, was retained profit, i.e. reinvested gain.
According to branches of activity, figures show that more than a
quarter of foreign investments, or 27.54 percent, was directed into
non-specialised retail trade, while slightly less than one
quarter, or 24.23 percent, was invested in the banking sector.
According to the investing countries, most foreign investments in
the first half of this year, as well as in the past ten years, were
made by Austria. In the first half of this year, Austria accounted
for 30.23 percent of foreign investments, the United States for
27.54 percent, while Germany and the Netherlands accounted for
slightly more than 10 percent of foreign investments.
According to the HNB data, in the past ten years Croatian companies
have invested a total of 1.08 billion dollars abroad.
In the first half of this year, domestic companies invested
US$26.58 million in foreign countries, of which most investments
were made in Serbia and Montenegro (41.92 percent) and Bosnia-
Herzegovina (32.37 percent).
