"I do declare that Croatian authorities do not know the whereabouts
of General Gotovina," Mesic told a press conference in Zagreb
following talks with Slovak President Rudolf Schuster.
Speaking just days before the visit of tribunal chief prosecutor
Carla del Ponte to Zagreb, Mesic said he thought "Croatia's
cooperation with the tribunal is good."
After her visit to Zagreb on October 6, Del Ponte is due to present a
regular annual report to the UN Security Council on October 9 on the
work of the prosecutor's office and cooperation of the countries
concerned.
Britain has indicated to Croatia that its ratification of the
Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Croatia and the EU
will depend on Del Ponte's report, while the Netherlands has said it
will not send a notification of ratification to Brussels without a
positive report of the Hague tribunal.
The main objection of the chief prosecutor is that in her opinion
Croatia has not done all that is necessary to apprehend General
Gotovina.
