DUBROVNIK MARKED DUBROVNIK, Oct 1 (Hina) - Commemorating the aggression by the former Yugoslav People's Army and Serbian-Montenegrin units on Dubrovnik, which was launched on the city from all weapons on 1 October 1991, a delegation of Dubrovnik City, headed by mayor Dubravka Suica, and representatives of Homeland War associations on Wednesday laid wreaths and flowers in front of a cross at the city's Boninovo cemetery commemorating soldiers and civilians killed in the war.
DUBROVNIK, Oct 1 (Hina) - Commemorating the aggression by the former Yugoslav People's Army and Serbian-Montenegrin units on Dubrovnik, which was launched on the city from all weapons on 1 October 1991, a delegation of Dubrovnik City, headed by mayor Dubravka Suica, and representatives of Homeland War associations on Wednesday laid wreaths and flowers in front of a cross at the city's Boninovo cemetery commemorating soldiers and civilians killed in the war. #L# On 1 October 1991, more than 7,000 enemy soldiers, assisted by heavy artillery, jets and naval ships, launched an attack on the area of Dubrovnik. More than 800 soldiers and civilians in the area were killed or injured in the attack, 33,000 people had to leave their homes, while 336 people were held in Serb and Montenegrin prison camps in the most inhumane conditions. Many villages from Konavle to the coast in the Dubrovnik area, as well as business facilities and cultural monuments, were plundered and destroyed. (hina) rml sb
