discussed cooperation at a meeting in New York on Wednesday. #L#
Picula organised a working lunch for CEI officials, at which he said
that he hoped the CEI would remain functional and useful to all its
members also after five of its 17 member-countries joined the EU
next year.
The Croatian official, who is attending the 58th session of the UN
General Assembly, also met representatives of the Jewish
organisation B'Nai B'rith and the American Jewish Committee from
New York.
The two sides noted general progress in democratic standards in
Croatia, as well as in relations between Israel and Croatia,
especially in the light of Israeli President Moshe Katsav's visit
to Croatia.
Picula also spoke about his country's position to the Middle East
crisis, stating that Croatia advocated more cooperation, as well as
more understanding for the positions of both the Palestinians and
the Israeli people.
Picula yesterday also met Montenegrin Foreign Minister Dragisa
Burzan to discuss the common European fisheries policy. He informed
his Montenegrin counterpart about the proposals Croatia submitted
to the European Commission in that regard, adding that he expected
the two countries to hold talks on the issue soon.
