LJUBLJANA, Sept 3 (Hina) - Slovenia's coalition government has
received the support of all of its parties with regard to the
"government's policy and conclusions on Croatia's intention to
proclaim an exclusive economic zone in the Adriatic" and "measures
taken by the Slovene foreign ministry," Prime Minister Antun Rop
said on Wednesday. #L#
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the coalition parties, he
said "the unilateral proclamation of the exclusive economic zone is
not the European custom or in keeping with the context of the
European policy".
Rop said the two neighbouring countries' experts would meet in the
middle of the month, when Slovenia would put forward some proposals
as to possible ways of resolving the current dispute with Croatia.
Slovenia will propose that ecological and fishing issues in the
Adriatic must be agreed on "a multilateral level" within the
Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, which is currently chaired by
Slovenia, Rop said.
He went on to say his cabinet was "firm in the decision" to find a
solution to the current problem while bearing in mind Slovenia's
"national interest" which, Rop said, is the stance that "Slovenia
has access to the open sea".
"I'm sure we can find the solutions together," he said speaking of
relations with Croatia.
Asked how long consultations with the ambassador to Zagreb, Peter
Bekes, who has been temporarily withdrawn from Zagreb, could last,
the PM said that it was up to the foreign ministry.
