CAVTAT CAVTAT, Sept 3 (Hina) - An international conference on economic, social and cultural rights started in the southern Adriatic town of Cavtat on Wednesday. The event has pooled around 80 experts from human rights institutes and non-government organisations from some 30 European and Central Asian countries.
CAVTAT, Sept 3 (Hina) - An international conference on economic, social and cultural rights started in the southern Adriatic town of Cavtat on Wednesday. The event has pooled around 80 experts from human rights institutes and non-government organisations from some 30 European and Central Asian countries. #L# The two-day conference was opened by Croatian Vice-Premier Ante Simonic, who said that it was part of international efforts to promote human rights in the general sense, as well as their economic, social and cultural aspects. The purpose of the conference is to initiate and build constructive dialogue promoting the understanding of economic, social and cultural rights on the level of states and civil society, he added. The conference will also address issues related to a draft facultative protocol to the International Pact on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Conclusions of the conference will be sent to the UN Human Rights Commission's task force in charge of drawing up the text of the protocol, which will start operating at the start of next year. The conference was organised by the Croatian government and the International Bar Association with the support of the Finnish government. (hina) rml
