Briefing reporters about the results of the project's
implementation in the Zagreb neighbourhood of Crnomerec, the
minister said this was proving to be one of the ministry's most
successful projects.
The aim of the project is to establish cooperation and confidence
between citizens and police, and the results of the first five
months have surpassed expectations, Lucin said, adding that the
project's value had been recognised by local community members and
authorities, and the media.
About 800 neighbourhood police officers will be engaged in the
project once it goes into force throughout Croatia.
The first neighbourhood police appeared in mid-April in Zagreb,
Split, Rijeka, Sisak, and Pozega, and two months later in Vukovar.
Reporters were also informed about the project's shortcomings --
insufficient equipment and mistrust on the part of older officers
about the new way of working.
