EUPM spokesman Jon Oskar Solnes told reporters in Sarajevo that the
police operation was carried out in the north-eastern town of
Bijeljina on Wednesday with the knowledge of and under the
supervision of the EUPM.
He said that the police had searched the residence of Orthodox Serb
Bishop Vasilije Kacavenda in the centre of Bijeljina and the nearby
monastery.
Kacavenda, known for his nationalist rhetoric, directly supported
the Bosnian Serb leadership during the war, particularly Karadzic
and chief Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladic.
Although no one was arrested, the EUPM said it was an important and
encouraging event because the Bosnian Serb police showed they were
ready for operations to arrest war crimes suspects.
