PRISTINA, Aug 26 (Hina) - The new Civil Administrator in Kosovo, Finnish diplomat Harri Holkeri, started his first day as head of the UN mission on Tuesday by meeting top officials of Kosovo institutions. The meetings focused on the current situation in the province, particularly with regard to security. #L# Holkeri met Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova, who warned him that the latest attempts by Belgrade to integrate Kosovo into Serbia in official documents would have serious implications, primarily hampering dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. He reiterated his stand about an independent Kosovo, as part of the European Union and NATO. Holkeri said after the talks that Kosovo's future and final status would be decided by the UN Security Council and not in Belgrade or Pristina, and added that recent discussions in Belgrade would not have any influence on his work or that of his colleagues. He pointed to the need for Pristina and Belgrade to start dialogue on practical issues as soon as possible. Holkeri also met Premier Bajram Rexhepi and parliament speaker Nexhat Daci. On Wednesday he is to meet the leaders of Kosovo Albanian parliamentary parties and representatives of ethnic Serbs. The new UN Civil Administrator also held talks with the commander of NATO South Wing, Admiral Gregory Jonston. (hina) rml
