Croatia has exceeded the debt of the former Yugoslavia, Ivo Sanader
told reporters in Split after a HDZ Presidency session, adding that
the HDZ had forwarded into parliamentary procedure a motion to
debate the rise of the external debt.
The HDZ will also request a debate on this summer's bushfires, he
said, adding that the government should have prepared much better
for dealing with the blazes.
Sanader said that since visa requirements were revoked for Serbian
citizens, groups of them were coming to Croatia, causing serious
incidents which were kept from the public, for example in the
easternmost town of Beli Manastir.
Sanader said mayor Ivo Buconjic had informed the HDZ Presidency
about groups of inebriated Serbs coming to the town, singing
nationalist songs and provoking the local population. Sanader said
the HDZ would urge the government to re-examine its decision on the
liberalisation of the border with Serbia.
On another subject, Sanader said the HDZ was in favour of
proclaiming an economic zone in the Adriatic. This is something
nobody can prohibit Croatia from doing, he said.
Replying to a reporter's question, Sanader ruled out the
possibility of the HDZ forming a post-election coalition with the
Social Democrats (SDP) because of different platforms, or with the
Croatian Bloc, which he said would not even cross the electoral
threshold.
Sanader said the HDZ was counting on the electorate of the Croatian
Peasant Party (HSS) which he said was completely different from the
party's leadership. He blasted HSS president Zlatko Tomcic's
cooperation with the SDP.
