SIRT/ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - Libyan Prime Minister Shukri Ghanem has said that his country is "fully prepared to start cooperation with Croatia" on projects in the oil and other industries and agriculture that would be carried out in Libya. #L# In an interview with the Libyan news agency Jana following talks with the visiting Croatian delegation on economic cooperation, Ghanem said the two countries should increase the volume of trade, stressing the importance of trade fairs in Libya at which Croatian products would be presented. Ghanem also stressed the importance of the two countries' joint ventures in agricultural and industrial projects in Africa and promotion of cultural and scientific exchange, investment and avoidance of double taxation. The prime minister was quoted as saying that Croatia would set up a large centre for the treatment of diabetes in Libya that would cover the African continent. Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has been on a five-day official visit to Libya since Monday. He is accompanied by representatives of major Croatian companies. Mesic spent the first two days in the city of Sirt where he met Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi. He is scheduled to open a Croatian Embassy in Tripoli on Wednesday. In its report on a meeting between the Libyan and Croatian delegations, Jana quoted Qaddafi as saying that cooperation between Africa and Europe could be strengthened through Libya, as a northern gateway to Africa, and Croatia, as an important gateway to Europe. Commenting on the international situation, he expressed support for the European Union as a way of establishing balance in the world. Speaking of Iraq, Qaddafi expressed regret that some countries were acting outside the UN mandate and charter. He drew a parallel with the collapse of the League of Nations, which he said had been caused by Hitler. "A new Hitler is on the rise now, transforming the United Nations into a League of Nations. Any action outside the UN charter should stop," Qaddafi said. (hina) vm
