SPLIT, Aug 2 (Hina) - A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of committing war crimes against civilians in the village of Maovice near Knin during the 1990s war, the Split Police Department said on Saturday.

suspicion of committing war crimes against civilians in the village
of Maovice near Knin during the 1990s war, the Split Police

The man, a Croatian citizen, was a member of Serb rebel forces from
May 1992 until the start of August 1995 when Croatia mounted a
combined military and police offensive known as Operation Storm to
crush the Serb rebellion. He was arrested on Friday afternoon at the
Strmica border crossing with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Police said the suspect was arrested on the basis of a special
report filed with the Office of the Public Prosecutor in 1996. He
was transferred to Split on Friday for a criminal investigation,
and today he was taken before the investigating judge of the Split
County Court.
