ZAGREB, July 30 (Hina) - The Croatian government held its last session on Wednesday before its summer recess and will again convene on 21 August. #L# Today, the Ivica Racan cabinet supported a draft law on the protection of witnesses. The law envisages permanent protection of persons who give testimonies which help in the prosecution of those who commit grave crimes such as involvement in organised crime or war crimes. The government okayed a draft project of a study on making the Croatian army professional. A public debate will be initiated on the speed of the annulment of conscription in military service and a deadline for the professionalisation of the armed forces. A total of 35 million kuna has been earmarked for the support to Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina and ethnic Croats in other countries. The fund will be used for scientific, health and sporting projects of 244 institutions. The government gave the green light to the establishment of a company called Park Prevlaka. The government will hold 51 percent stock in the company, while Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the municipality of Konavle will hold 24 and 25 percent respectively. The purpose of the project is to facilitate the tourism-oriented development of the southernmost Croatian peninsula. Supporting the development of the Croatian Olympic Centre on Mount Bjelolasica, the government gave guarantees for a loan, worth 27.8 million kuna, for the building and improvement of facilities in that area.
