At its session on Thursday, the government adopted a programme for
adult literacy, called the Decade of Literacy 2003/2013, in order
to solve the problem of illiteracy of one fifth of Croatian citizens
above the age of 15.
According to statistics, 685 thousand Croatians above 15 have not
finished primary school. Of this number, three percent have not
completed any grade.
The implementation of the programme will begin in early September,
and the government has earmarked 6.4 million kuna (approx.853
thousand euros) for this purpose, Education Minister Vladimir
Strugar said at the session.
