ZAGREB, July 30 (Hina) - The number of arrivals of tourists in Croatia rose by eight (8) percent to 2.8 million in the first six months this year compared to the same period in 2002, and the number of overnight stays also rose by
eight percent to 11.4 million, Tourism Minister Pave Zupan-Ruskovic said at the government's session on Wednesday.

Croatia rose by eight (8) percent to 2.8 million in the first six
months this year compared to the same period in 2002, and the number
of overnight stays also rose by eight percent to 11.4 million,
Tourism Minister Pave Zupan-Ruskovic said at the government's

Describing the current figures as excellent, the minister said this
year's plan in tourism would be realised and would have better
results than expected.
In the first half of 2003, there were 2.2 million foreign holiday-
makers (an eight-percent rise), who made 9.6 million overnight
stays (also an eight-percent rise), she said.
We are expecting a good results from the tourist season, but
revenues from tourism into the budget are not so good, Finance
Minister Mato Crkvenac said. Pointing to various forms of tax
evasion, Minister Crkvenac announced harsh penalties for those who
were committing that criminal offence.
