ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - Amendments to the labour act adopted in
parliament Monday were criticised by representatives of the
Croatian Employers' Association and some union leaders who
carefully observed today's voting. #L#
HUP head Zeljko Ivancevic says the legal solution on the
representation of workers in supervising committees is
unacceptable, as is the entire law.
"Those amendments do not bring us closer to Europe, which means that
this story will continue after the election," Ivancevic told
reporters after the amendments were adopted.
The president of the Independent Croatian Unions, Kresimir Sever,
said the ruling majority "sold workers because of foreign loans".
"Today we very well know that the Croatian workers is worth US$202
million to the majority in parliament, this is what they voted for
and this is why they cut dismissal wages and period of notice, and
this is what it needs to be taken into account in the time to come,"
he said.
Vilim Ribic, president of the Foundation of Croatian Unions,
believes the opposite. He described the amendments to the Labour
Act as positive progress, even though he regrets the reduction of
workers' rights.
