ZAGREB, July 1 (Hina) - Union leaders handed out leaflets outside the government building on Tuesday in protest against the proposed amendments to the labour legislation. Their activities were not coordinated, because they had fallen
out prior to a union referendum on the Labour Act.

Union representatives are opposed to limiting severance pay to six
average wages at the most, reducing dismissal periods and
increasing the number of employees working for small business
owners from the current ten to 20.
Before today's parliamentary debate on the amendments to the Labour
Act, the presidents of four union federations separately
distributed flyers and amendments to the Labour Act to MPs,
protesting that there was no unity among the unions.
Union commissioners whistled and threw insults at parliament vice
president Mato Arlovic of the Social Democratic Party as he was
entering the parliament building.
