LJUBLJANA, June 23 (Hina) - Different views of the International Criminal Court (ICC) do not endanger U.S.-Slovenia relations, Assistant State Secretary Elizabeth Jones said in Ljubljana on Monday after talks with Slovene President Janez Drnovsek, Prime Minister Anton Rop, and the state secretary at the foreign ministry, Iztok Mirosic.
LJUBLJANA, June 23 (Hina) - Different views of the International Criminal Court (ICC) do not endanger U.S.-Slovenia relations, Assistant State Secretary Elizabeth Jones said in Ljubljana on Monday after talks with Slovene President Janez Drnovsek, Prime Minister Anton Rop, and the state secretary at the foreign ministry, Iztok Mirosic. #L# Washington-Ljubljana relations are excellent, and the bilateral treaty on the non-extradition of U.S. citizens to The Hague-based ICC is just one bilateral issue, Jones told the press. The United States respects the decisions of Slovenia and other states which acceded to the Rome Statute, based on which the ICC was set up, but it expects the U.S. decision not to accede to the court will be respected likewise, she said. Foreign ministry representatives acquainted Jones with Slovenia's engagement in South Eastern Europe, stressing their special support to Croatia's application for European Union membership.
