Speaking to reporters, Damir Vrhovnik, whom the supervisory board
recently re-appointed the shipyard's director, said negotiations
with the owners, commercial banks, and the government were still
underway and that the owners evidently were not yet ready to take a
position as to how to further finance Viktor Lenac.
The owners are expected to make a final decision in about ten days,
said Vrhovnik.
The majority owners in the Rijeka-based shipyard are the companies
Ella III, Montiron Shipping Corporation Ltd, International Finance
Corporation, and the German Development Bank.
Viktor Lenac needs about US$43 million to complete the second phase
of its development cycle. The government has approved a $17 million
loan through the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development,
provided the rest is secured by the majority stockholders.
