CAVTAT, May 27 (Hina) - The meeting of the Stability Pact for South-
Eastern Europe in Cavtat is a preparation for the European Union's
summit in Salonika, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on
Tuesday. Together with his guest, Romanian President Ion Iliescu,
Mesic visited Cavtat, which is hosting a meeting of the Stability
Pact Regional Table, which started on Monday. #L#
The Croatian president said the Cavtat meeting encouraged
cooperation in the region.
The Romanian president, who arrived in Croatia for an official
visit yesterday, stressed the importance of regional cooperation
as well and the role of the Stability Pact in building and
modernising the region.
The Cavtat event is held ahead of the EU summit in Salonika, which,
among other things, will define EU stands on the future of this part
of Europe.
This morning, the two presidents participated in the opening
ceremony of a ministerial conference on cooperation in science and
technology in Dubrovnik. Later, they joined participants in the
Stability Pact Regional Table meeting in Cavtat, which gathered
representatives from countries in the region and numerous
international organisations for talks on regional cooperation.
