The parliamentary presidents of member-countries (Italy, Croatia,
Greece, Slovenia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia-
Montenegro) will discuss the fight against illegal trade and
parliamentary cooperation in the context of European integration
processes.
A recent meeting of the heads of state and governments of the
Adriatic-Ionian Initiative on May 13 in Bari, which was also
attended by Croatian Premier Ivica Racan and Foreign Minister
Tonino Picula, focused on road construction, cooperation among
universities and in the field of culture, and environmental
protection.
Participants in that meeting adopted a declaration conveying
support for Croatia's admission to the European Union.
After Italy's one-year presidency, the Initiative will be chaired
by Slovenia. On July 1, Italy takes over from Greece the presidency
of the EU.
