Revenue from tourism this year is expected to revolve around $7.9
billion, including a foreign currency inflow exceeding $4 billion,
the minister said, adding the rest was expected from spending by
domestic tourists, tourism-related exports and investments.
Zupan-Ruskovic called on businessmen to actively participate in
financing tourism, saying that over the past three years the
tourist sector had prepared the high season mostly with foreign
funds.
Comparing profit growth in economy and tourism should be a bait for
investors, said the minister. Profits in the economy in the 1999-
2001 period went up 61 percent while profits in tourism jumped up by
329 percent, she said.
Ivan Lovrinovic, dean of the Zagreb Faculty of Economics, also
pointed to the need of investing in tourism. He said tourism and
agriculture should be prioritised by this or the next cabinet when
determining key economic policy objectives.
