The money was donated via the Spanish Economy Ministry's state
secretariat for trade and tourism. The study will be made by Spain's
INITEC Technologia company based on a contract signed at the
Spanish Embassy in Zagreb on Tuesday by the company's director,
Francisco Bereguela, Smokvica mayor Lenko Salecic, and the head of
the Embassy's office for economy and trade, Isabel Garcia Maura.
Building an airport on Korcula would be part of a development plan
for the island including Spanish investing in hotels, marinas, golf
courses, and the production of electricity by using wind, said
Maura.
If the project goes through, Croatia's Ministry of Maritime
Affairs, Transport and Communications is likely to finance
technical documentation, the announcement of the bid for tenders,
and the granting of building permit.
