Besides reviving the ship building industry, the government's most
important programmes are the rehabilitation of eight
agribusinesses and the payment of all state debts which amount to 10
billion kuna, Linic said.
He dismissed claims that the government had "forced companies into
bankruptcy" and that it had "sold everything off to foreigners".
He said that out of 180 state-run companies, only 31 had been sold,
and assessed this number as very low.
Linic said the country's foreign debt had increased due to
investments into state-run companies, but also because, he said,
the incumbent government had "paid off the damage caused by theft in
these companies before 1999".
The vice-premier said the government had revived the economy,
solved some problems of insolvency with bankruptcy procedures, and
implemented active measures to create conditions for the
development of entrepreneurship and the growth of economy.
