letter urges the VAD members to raise the traditional Alka tournament above everyday politics.
SINJ, April 26 (Hina) - At a regular assembly of the Alka Knights
Association (VAD), held in the southern Croatian town of Sinj on
Saturday, a letter by the Alka Duke, retired General Mirko Norac,
was distributed to the present. The letter urges the VAD members to
raise the traditional Alka tournament above everyday politics.

Norac, who has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for war crimes in
the Gospic region but has a right to appeal, sent the letter from the
Rijeka prison. He thanks the VAD on its support, and stresses that
"the attitude towards the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sinj, the Alka
tournament and the town of Sinj needs to be raised above everyday
political events".
Norac said that individuals who act on instructions of certain
groups must not be allowed to destroy the values which it had taken
centuries to create.
