WASHINGTON, Apr 30 (Hina) - U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell called on Congress on Tuesday to accept seven new countries into NATO membership -- Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia -- in the largest
enlargement in the history of the alliance.

called on Congress on Tuesday to accept seven new countries into
NATO membership -- Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania,
Slovakia, Slovenia -- in the largest enlargement in the history of

Addressing the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, Powell said
the NATO doors would remain open. He applauded the applications for
membership submitted by Croatia, Albania, and Macedonia, as well as
other future candidates.
