ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - Gojko Susak, Croatia's war-time defence minister and one of the closest associates of Croatia's first president, the late Franjo Tudjman, died on May 3 five years ago. #L# In tribute to Susak, retired generals will lay a wreath at his grave at Zagreb's Mirogoj cemetery tomorrow. Having returned from Canada, Susak became a member of Croatia's government after the first free elections in Croatia. He held the office of defence minister from 1991 until his death on 3 May 1998 following a grave illness. At the request of the U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague, Croatia's government recently passed a decision to declassify files from defence ministry archives referring to Susak. According to Croatian media, the files comprise almost 1,000 pages concerning Susak's activities during the 1990s war. Allegedly they include various requests Bosnia and Herzegovina sent Croatia for both military and financial assistance. Some media have stated the government has initiated the preparation of an extensive report on Croatia's role in Bosnia during the war. The report would be sent to parliament for discussion.
