"We are now mulling over a model for collecting fees, which can be
applied," Mayor Suica said.
One possibility is that busses carrying tourists to Dubrovnik, pay
fees.
"The other, even more important, possibility, ... is to introduce
entrance charges for tourists from ships on cruise, that stay in
Dubrovnik for only a few hours," she added.
Funds collected from tickets for the entrance to downtown Dubrovnik
will be used for the renovation of the historical centre of this
Croatian coastal city.
According to the mayor, the plans of the local authorities have been
supported by Croatia's Ambassador to the UNESCO, Neda Ritz, who
cited examples of French cities to this purpose.
