The centre was established by the Society for Psychological
Counselling, said the centre's director, Boris Hudina.
All counselling services will be free of charge until the autumn,
when citizens will have to pay symbolic fees.
Around 3.5 million-kuna-worth (around EUR470,000) of funding for
the equipment of the centre and its operation in the next three
years was provided by the Dutch foreign ministry. Another 250,000
kuna was invested by the State Institute for Family, Maternity and
Youth, while the City of Zagreb donated offices.
The centre has three full-time employees, some 30 volunteers and
ten part-time employees.
Opening the centre, Labour and Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic
said many people in Croatia needed psychological help to overcome
the traumatic experience of war, transition-related changes and
crises which happened in the last decade.
Help is needed the most by children and young people so they will not
become apathetic and turn to alcohol, drugs and crime, the minister
said.
