ZAGREB, April 24 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said
Thursday that media allegations about indictments by the U.N. war
crimes tribunal being prepared against some former state officials
were speculations. #L#
"Everything that's being said is... just speculation," Mesic told
reporters.
The tribunal and the prosecution must issue indictments by the end
of 2004, but "who will be suspected or accused is known to nobody in
Croatia", Mesic said.
Speaking about the coming parliamentary elections, the president
said a division to left and right coalitions would not be good.
"There are several prominent parties in Croatia, so I don't believe
there will be positioning to the left or the right," he said, adding
that such a division could cause a division in the public, which
would be detrimental.
Mesic said he did not care when the elections would take place, but
said it was important that they be carried out in a legal and
democratic way, with citizens expressing their will.
