In their notes, Mesic and Tomcic said this Easter would be
celebrated in the expectation of the pope's third visit to Croatia
early in the summer.
The President said the Holy Father would certainly accentuate the
Christian tenets necessary for the material renewal of the homeland
and the moral revival of citizens.
He said Easter would be an opportunity to "re-examine our
commitment... to justice, peace, solidarity, the respect of
individuals".
The President voiced hope state and church authorities would
cooperate well in projects focusing on the common good in Croatia.
He also wished a happy Easter to Christians who celebrate it
according to the Gregorian calendar.
Tomcic said in his note John Paul's visit would encourage
development in Croatia and represent genuine support to Croatia's
persistence on the road to full European integration and to the
building of society on Christian foundations.
He said Croatia had the conditions and ability to achieve that.
