The Serbian government earlier today reached a unanimous decision
on the issue, after which Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic
announced that during the state of emergency the slaying of Premier
Djindjic had been entirely solved, as well as several dozen other
murders which took place over the last ten years. Zivkovic stressed
that a drug smuggling chain was also broken and that a large number
of other crimes was solved.
He said, however, that the fight against crime was not over yet and
that it would resume with same intensity.
Zivkovic announced that all reforms would continue and that all
international obligations would be met, including cooperation with
the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia at
The Hague.
The Serbian government released an official statement today on the
results of the state of emergency. According to the statement, more
than 10,000 people have been arrested since Djindjic's
assassination, of whom about 4,500 have been kept in custody.
Charges have been pressed against 3,200 persons.
