Public prosecutor Zorica Popovic said the prosecution had been
notified that Markovic had left the country on February 21 and was
in Moscow, as well as that the accused had not attended a February
hearing nor another one which had been scheduled for yesterday,
Vecernje novosti daily said on Friday.
Among other things, Markovic is accused of negotiating the
allocation of a central Belgrade flat from Serbia's state housing
fund to her grandson Marko's nanny.
Following the recent discovery of the body of former Serbian
President Ivan Stambolic, who was kidnapped and killed on 25 August
2000, Markovic was frequently mentioned as having contracted the
slaying.
She is said to have fled to Russia, where allegedly keeping her
company is her son Marko Milosevic, who left Yugoslavia in October
2000. An Interpol arrest warrant has been issued after him.
