Most European countries have such laws, Health Minister Andro
Vlahusic said.
Under the bill on the medical profession, doctors will be able to
exercise their profession as regularly employed persons or in
private practice.
The lowest price of work of doctors with private practice will be
determined by the Croatian Medical Chamber, which would also
determine the price of individual medical services.
The bill also envisages the possibility of charity medical work in
religious or non-government associations.
Expert supervision over the medical profession will be transferred
from the state to the Chamber, which will be given more powers than
it has currently.
Under the bill on the stomatological profession, dentists will be
able to exercise their profession in dentists' offices, group
practice and health institutions. As in the case of doctors,
dentists will be obliged to register with the Croatian Dentists'
Chamber.
The government approved a wine bill after the ministries of health
and agriculture resolved last week's dispute over the definition of
wine and its advertising.
Wine has been defined as an agricultural and food product and its
advertising is allowed only in cases of quality, high-quality and
fruit wines. Wine advertising will be defined with special
regulations by the agriculture minister, with the consent of the
health minister.
The government forwarded to parliament changes to the Law on
Obligatory and Voluntary Pension Funds, which reduce the minimum
number of insurees required to set up such funds. The minimum number
of insurees required to set up an obligatory pension fund is 50,000,
while the establishment of voluntary pension funds requires at
least 200 insurees.
Labour and Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic said Croatia was the
most successful of all transition countries with regard to the
reform of the pension system.
The government also agreed with the criteria of division of income
from games of chance. The ministers voiced satisfaction with the
fact that this year's allocations for different sports and drug-
prevention activities from that income would total almost 122
million kuna, as against last year's 21 million.
