Sibenik-Knin County police reported today that the man was a member
of the local militia in the occupied central Croatian region,
dubbed Krajina. He was reportedly uncovered during an enquiry into
war crimes committed by members of the Serb paramilitary units
against Croatian civilians during the Homeland War.
The man, whose name or initials the police would not reveal, is
suspected of shooting a 84-year old woman in the leg in the Citluk
village on January 30, 1993. As a consequence, the woman had to have
her leg amputated above the knee.
In early 1993, he allegedly committed attempted rape in the village
of Marasovine near Knin.
He is also suspected of having burst into a private house in the
village of Ljubetic, along with three other members of the Krajina
paramilitary troops, dressed in camouflage uniforms and with hoods
on, armed with guns and knives. In the house, he found a 64-year-old
woman, threatened her with a knife, punched her teeth out and thrust
his knife into her mouth, threatening to kill her if she did not tell
him where she kept money.
