ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - A chamber of judges of the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY) on Monday suspended an order for the arrest of retired Croatian general Janko Bobetko and for his extradition from Zagreb to The Hague, according to Wednesday's issue of the Vjesnik daily.
ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - A chamber of judges of the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY) on Monday suspended an order for the arrest of retired Croatian general Janko Bobetko and for his extradition from Zagreb to The Hague, according to Wednesday's issue of the Vjesnik daily. #L# Quoting diplomatic and other sources close to the Hague-based tribunal, the Croatian daily says that the competent chamber on Monday considered the method in which the ICTY's indictment against the retired general had been served on and that it accepted the service as correct in the processing sense. The panel of judges, according to the Croatian paper, maintains that the indictment was served on, and it annulled the order for Bobetko's arrest and extradition. On 19 March Judge Carmel Agius issued an order asking Zagreb to serve the indictment either on Bobetko or on his lawyers and that, in turn, the above-mentioned orders for his apprehension and extradition would be suspended. The Croatian government sent the indictment to Bobetko's lawyer, Bosiljko Misetic. A war-time commander of the Croatian army, Gen. Bobetko, is regarded by the ICTY prosecution as responsible for was crimes perpetrated during the 1993 operation in the Medak Pocket. (hina) ms
